Two Autograph Letters Signed, dealing with his work as an editor, the one pointing out the impropriety of publishing “in the Library [or Romance] any new work, while rejecting my sister’s translation which was made to order”; the other sending an extra guinea to a contributor to Chambers Journal. Also an Autograph Note Signed, sending his autograph. 3 letters, various sizes, two tipped on to album leaves, generally in good condition. 1854 and undated. Leitch Ritchie (1800–1865), Scottish novelist and journalist. Ritchie wrote four novels, of which the most successful was Wearyfoot Common. The others were Schinderhannes, The Robber of the Rhine and The Magician. In his later years he edited Chambers’ Journal. He also wrote short stories, tourist guides and travel books.
