Autograph Letter Signed, to Ambrose Spong, imparting much spiritual advice on the occasion of his preaching at Cheshunt College Chapel, and discussing the music. 4 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, traces of guard, with a separate carte de visite size photographic portrait of Reynolds. Townshend House, Malvern, 9 August [1860’s]. Henry Robert Reynolds (1825-1896), Congregational minister. In 1860 Reynolds became president of Cheshunt College. Besides fulfilling the duties of principal of the college and pastor of the college chapel and village churches, he was professor of dogmatic theology, ecclesiastical history, and New Testament exegesis. In addition, from 1866 to 1874 he was co-editor with Henry Allon of the British Quarterly Review, and from 1877 to 1882 he edited the Evangelical Magazine. He and his brother, John Russell Reynolds, wrote a novel dealing with the intellectual and religious questions of the time, which was published anonymously in 1860 as Yes and No, or, Glimpses of the Great Conflict.
