Autograph Letter Signed, to Captain Beaufort R.N., thanking him for use of the Journal, discussing inscriptions, offering to show him “the Cambridge Lions” over the summer. 3 pp. 8 x 5 inches, toned, two neat repairs, remains of guard. Miles Lime, 4 February 1815. George Cecil Renouard (1780-1867), scholar, made classical archaeological discoveries when he was chaplain at Smyrna. He had a wide reputation as a linguist, geographer and botanist, and maintained a correspondence with the most distinguished orientalists and geographers of Europe.
