Autograph Letter Signed ‘D.B.Reid’, to W.C.Trevelyan, wanting an opportunity to demonstrate “the arrangement adopted in my class room for the communication of sound”, with an addendum in another hand describing the “Principal Peculiarities” of the room. 2 pp. 9 x 7 inches, in good condition. Undated. Uncommon. David Boswell Reid (1805-1863), inventor, the prime instigator of air-conditioned buildings. In 1844 he published Illustrations of the Theory …of Ventilation, and his system was adopted by Barry in the new Houses of Parliament. He became a government medical inspector to the sanitary commission of the United States in 1856. He died in Washington as he was about to set out on a tour of inspection of the new military hospitals. Sir Walter Calverley Trevelyan (1797-1879), naturalist.
