Autograph Letter Signed, to Mr. Croker, exposing the devious denial by Mr. Davidge that he did not produce “the infamous playbill exhibited at the Coburg”, and explaining what really happened. 2 pp. 9 x 7 inches, fine. 5 Brydges Street, Covent Garden, 25 June 1832. “Falsehood generally refutes itself.” Leman Thomas [Tertius] Rede (1799-1832), writer, elocution teacher, actor, informs Croker that Davidge “followed that act up by requesting the actors personating the characters in Tom Thumb to model their dresses & appearance into as near a resemblance to his present Majesty, The Duke of Wellington &c., as possible. This the performers one & all declined doing.”
