Autograph Letter Signed ‘J.Skinner Prout’, saying the drawings had a arrived, “but as blocks”, and asking “Are the drawings to be Vignetted?” 1 page 7 x 4 inches, small filing hole, otherwise very good, a little dusty. 6 January 1863. John Skinner Prout (1805 –1876) was a British painter, writer, lithographer and art teacher who worked in Australia in the 1840s. “John Skinner Prout was the nephew of the more famous Samuel Prout… He was born in England in 1806 and went to Australia in 1840. He returned to England in 1848, where he died in 1876. He was the first artist of any merit to go to Australia, and by his teaching, and by his endeavours to foster an interest in art, he had considerable influence on early Australian painting” [Abbey]
