Autograph Quotation Signed ‘Wm.H.Prescott’ and dated, from his own work, the History of the Reign of Philip the Second. Album page 9 x 6 inches, in good condition. Boston, 5 November 1858. William Hickling Prescott (1796-1859), historian. The quotation is from the third volume (published 1858) of Prescott’s final and uncompleted work, the History of the Reign of Philip the Second. “Leaving Granada, the captain-general took the most direct route, leading along the western slant of the Sierra Nevada, that mountain range which, with its frosty peaks glistering in the sun like palisades of silver, fences round the city in the south and screens it in the summer from the scorching winds of Africa.”
