Autograph Letter Signed, to R.Falk, referring to the Admiralty Coal Enquiry, referring his correspondent to Mr. Philliips for sound scientific advice. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, fine. Marlborough House, 28 January 1854. Lyon Playfair (1818-1898), 1st Baron Playfair, scientist, chemist, with an interest in public health and welfare. In 1845 he was chemist to the Geological Survey. After his active involvement in the Great Exhibition (1851) he became secretary for science in the Department of Science and Art.
