Autograph Letter Signed ‘M.Planta’, to Dr. Maton, Spring Gardens, London, about his present appointment, invoking “Her Majesty’s protection and approbation”, saying she has passed his letter to Princess Elizabeth, suggesting a day when he might visit and meet the Queen. 2½ pages 9 x 7½ inches, in good condition, address panel, small tear at seal opening. Windsor Castle, 22 April [believed to be 1806]. Margaret Planta (1754-1834), English teacher and governess (and “personal attendant” according to Fanny Burney) to the Princesses at Windsor Castle. “Princess Elizabeth is at this time employed in improving and decorating her little Garden. I have not the least doubt that when finished it will be a delightful little spot.” William George Maton M.D. (1774 – 1835) was an English physician, a society doctor who became associated with the British royal family. He published on natural history and antiquarian topics.
