A good Autograph Letter from the Isle of Arran to Mrs. Lewis, about his work, the weather, the R.A. Exhibition. 3 pp. 7 x 4 inches, fine. Machrie Bay, Isle of Arran, 7 June 1891. Colin Bent Phillip (1855-1932), the son of John “Spanish” Phillip, studied art at the Lambeth School of Art, in Edinburgh, and under David Farquharson. From 1882 he exhibited at most of the principal London galleries and was elected to the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours in 1890 and to the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours in 1898. He specialised in Highland subjects.
