Autograph Letter Signed, to D.J.Ansted, Geological Society, about his intention to visit Cambridge anticipating “very great pleasure from the Society of the Red Lion, of whom I hope to prove myself a not unworthy member. I have got one curious subject for the Association….” 2 pp. 7½ x 4½ inches, in good condition. Birmingham, 25 May 1845. John Percy (1817-1889) was the first Professor of Metallurgy at the School of Mines, London, who invented a method of extracting silver from its ores. His large metallurgical collection was bought by what is now the Science Museum. His great treatise on metallurgy, ‘Iron and Steel’, was published in 1864.
