Autograph Letter Signed, to Henry Mogford, exhibition organiser, much pleased by his visit to the Crystal Palace exhibition, but criticising the hanging of his own works, and suggesting improvements. 3 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in fine condition, neatly tipped on to part of an album leaf. Croydon, 18 June 1856. Aaron Edwin Penley (1806 – 1870), English watercolour-painter. An enthusiastic follower of his art, Penley published various elaborate treatises on its principles and practice, some of which are illustrated by chromolithography. Among them are his Elements of Perspective (1851), English School of Painting in Water Colours (1861), Sketching from Nature in Water Colours (1869), and A System of Water Colour Painting.
