Autograph Letter Signed, while in exile in Italy, to Armand de Pontmartin, recalling their friendship, and praising the heart-felt article he has published. In French. 1 page 8 x 5 inches, in good condition, with address leaf. Pollone [Piedmont], 31 October 1872. Olivier Émile Ollivier (1825 –1913), French statesman. Starting as an avid republican opposed to Emperor Napoleon III, he pushed the Emperor toward liberal reforms and in turn came increasingly into Napoleon’s grip. He entered the cabinet and was the prime minister when Napoleon fell. Armand Augustin Joseph Marie Ferrard, Comte de Pontmartin (1811-1890), French critic, man of letters, and an indefatigable journalist.
