O’DONOGHUE, John. 16323

Autograph Letter Signed, to Pat Lawlor in New Zealand, thanking him for the review of ‘In a Quiet Land’, and confirming the influence of Synge’s plays. 1 page 10 x 8 inches, folded, in good condition, with the original envelope. Swanley, Kent, 4 March 1958. John O’Donoghue was born in 1900. In his early years he lived, a barefoot peasant boy, in a two-room cottage in Kerry. In A Quiet Land was written, and re-written, during a period of over more than twenty years. Synge’s plays “make me feel at home among the kind simple-minded people I knew in Kerry and in the Counties of Dublin and Wicklow as well.”
