Description

Autograph Letter Signed to E.Walford, forwarding a letter, which had not been answered ‘for it arrived when we were in a state of despondency as The Register’, assuring Walford that the following week ‘our Office will be much at your service, with very little else to do’. 2 pp. 7 x 4.5 inches, in good condition. Undated, probably 1869 [paper watermarked 1867]. John Gough Nichols (1806-1873), printer and antiquary. The letter probably refers to the short-lived Register and Magazine of Biography (1869). In 1829 he compiled an important book of autograph facsimiles: Autographs of Royal, Noble, Learned, and Remarkable Personages conspicuous in English History.
