Autograph Letter Signed ‘Napier of Magdala’, to Sir John Cowell, discussing an appointment and the circumstances for a trial of a “circular hospital” in different climates, Port Said having been suggested. 4 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in fine condition. No year given. Lord Napier of Magdala (1810-90) served in campaigns in India and distinguished himself at the siege of Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny. After the Abyssinian Expedition of 1868, Napier of Magdala became commander in chief in India.
