Autograph Letter Signed ‘Napier of Magdala’, to General Gardiner, discussing an important committee appointment. 3 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, fine. 38 Cornwall Gardens, undated. Lord Napier of Magdala (1810-90) served in campaigns in India and distinguished himself at the siege of Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny. After the Abyssinian Expedition of 1868, Napier of Magdala became commander in chief in India.
