Autograph Letter Signed, to Maria Hawes in Adelphi Terrace, about Maria’s father’s illness, inviting the family to dinner, with much lighthearted comment and allusion. 2½ pages 9 x 7 inches, folds, a few minor blemishes only. 5 Pomona Place, Hammersmith, 24 August 1837. Rosoman Mountain (1768-1841), vocalist and actress. “P.S. I have secured an Irish fellow that is often seen in our Neighbourhood to Convey this to you but whether he will deliver it Safely or not we must trust to Providence. I have known him many years and upon the whole I believe him to be an honest Man – Adieu!” Her correspondent is Maria, daughter of William Hawes (1785-1846), singer and composer.
