A good Autograph Letter Signed ‘George Meredith’, to Miss Nellie, thanking her for the Calendar, describing a Chinese Calendar he had been sent from San Francisco, now forwarding to Nellie as a gift a picture Meredith has purchased from Hyde’s Gallery. 4 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. Box ill, Dorking, 26 December 1898. George Meredith (1828-1909), novelist and poet. “Last year I had sent to me from San Francisco a Chinese Calendar, with quaint figures of Celestials at their occupations, counting money, gazing up at a window of the fair one, &c.”
