Letter Signed, to Mr. Ambler, acquainting him that the Commissioners of the Metropolis Roads have accepted his tender for “supplying the following quantity of Gravel …” 1 page 10 x 8 inches, some stains and blemishes, filing hole. Metropolis Roads Office, 1 May 1850. Uncommon. Sir James Nichol McAdam (1785-1852), Knight General Surveyor of Turnpikes, the “Colossus of Roads”, was knighted for managing turnpike trusts. He was one of the three sons of John Loudon McAdam, the famous road builder.
