MARSHALL, William Calder. 18535

Autograph Letter Signed, to A.Cooper R.A., about whether a recent letter is genuine or not. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition, with a separate small engraved portrait of Marshall. 6 Upper Belgrave Place, 28 March 1850. William Calder Marshall (1813-1894), Scottish sculptor. In June 1864, Calder Marshall was commissioned to make an allegorical group representing Agriculture, one of the four representing various “skills” to be installed on the Albert Memorial. “The letter strikes me as having too much sawder [flattery] and too much of a composed look about it, to be altogether genuine.” 45
