Autograph Letter Signed, to Miss House, passing on some literature to an acquaintance and her children, ‘for the sound of their enjoying laugh at our little narratives refreshes me still’. 4 pp. 5.5 x 3.5 inches, remains of guard, otherwise good. Beckenham Rectory, undated. Catherine Marsh (1818-1912), prolific novelist, and author of Memorials of Captain Hedley Vicars and of English Hearts and English Hands. She was the daughter of William Marsh, the rector of Beddington. Later she moved to Beckenham where her sister was wife to the rector. Catherine Marsh worked for the improvement of the working classes, particularly during the cholera epidemic of 1866.
