A series of nine Autograph Letters Signed, to his friend, W.B.Lethbridge, St James’s Street [wine and cigar merchant], about the private view of his pictures, his cigar orders, arrangements to meet, the framing of his pictures, etc. 9 letters, 11 pp., with 3 franked envelopes, a letter from Katherine MacWhirter and two newspaper cuttings. 1 Abbey Road, St. John’s Wood, 1885-1887 where dated. John MacWhirter RA (1839-1911), Scottish landscape painter. MacWhirter specialised in romantic landscapes with a great fondness for trees, spending much time in the hilly countryside of Perthshire. Initially, under the influence of John Everett Millais, he experimented with the detailed images of the Pre-Raphaelites, but later adopted a more sweeping style.
