Autograph Letter Signed, to Mrs. Paget, about his ill health and state of mind, although currently “with kind friends in the midst of beautiful scenery”. 4 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, minor blemishes only. Reigate, 2 August 1871. William Leighton Leitch (1804-1883), watercolour painter, one of the last classical landscape painters in England, travelled through Europe in the 1830’s. Engravings of his work illustrate Walsh’s Constantinople and the Turkish Empire (1838), Wright’s The Rhine, Italy and Greece (1840), Brockedon’s Italy (1843) and similar works.
