Description

Autograph Letter Signed ‘J.Keble’, to Mr. Kitchin, inviting him, at very short notice, to preach on All Saints morning. 4 pp. 6 x 3 inches, in very good condition, two light traces of former mounting. Hursley, 26 October 1860. John Keble (1792-1866), English churchman, one of the early Tractarians. George William Kitchin (1827-1912), later Dean of Winchester and of Durham. “… found it most convenient to put off our Dedication Feast to that day; our Church also being dedicated to All Saints. I had called my nephew to come & preach, but as we do not hear from him I suppose he is hindered; & so we are driven thus to tax your kindness…” Keble asks Kitchin to bring two or three of his boys (Kitchin was the headmaster of a preparatory school at Twyford at this time).
