Autograph Letter Signed, to “My dear Friend”, saying he has ordered that his “Portrait” [probably a photograph] be sent to his correspondent, adding that “we found our Cottage in nice order. I am pretty well, thanks to you.” 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. East Sheen, Mortlake, Surrey, 7 February 1857. Edward Jesse (1780-1868), writer on natural history. Besides contributions to the Gentleman’s Magazine, Bentley’s Miscellany, Once a Week, and The Times, Jesse wrote a number of works describing the countryside around Hampton Court, Windsor, and Eton. His interests in natural history and angling are reflected in his An Angler’s Rambles (1836) and Anecdotes of Dogs (1846).
