Autograph Letter Signed, to William Hunter, King’s Messenger at Calais, about the dispatch of “a small Trunk” from Dover to Calais, giving instructions for it to be forwarded. 2 pp. 9 x 8 inches, one clean tear repaired, some marginal stains, with the integral address leaf London, 12 March 1803. William Huskisson (1770-1830), statesman, the first man to be killed by a steam locomotive, was run down, ‘seeming like a man bewildered’, by the engine Rocket at the opening of the Liverpool to Manchester railway. “I trust the Discussions now going on between the two Countries will not have the effect of driving you from your Situation, which I hope you have found to answer your Expectations.”
