An entertaining Autograph Letter Signed ‘Yours, My dear Sir, very truly W.Holman Hunt’, stating that “the just rule would be that no one should send autographs for young ladies till the proper fee is received in the shape of their photographs …”, and expanding on this theme. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in clean condition, second leaf laid down. 1 Tor Villa, Campden Hill, 3 December 1862. W.Holman Hunt (1827-1910), Pre-Raphaelite painter, tackles the autograph craze. “… in this case I will try what confidence will do, and append my signature in the hope that before long I shall receive the proper payment and thus be enabled to commence my collection of autograph collectors.”
