Description

Autograph Letter Signed ‘R.H.Horne’, to Leonard Courtenay M.P., asking him to accept “my last published work”, impressed “by the forthright & manly directness of your speech on the condition of Turkey”. A good one page example, 7 x 4½ inches. 7 Northumberland Street, 8 June 1877. Richard Henry ‘Hengist’ Horne (1803-1884), English writer, served in the Mexican Navy, and returned to publish the epic Orion in 1843 at the price of one farthing, to show his contempt of a public that would not buy poetry. From 1852 to 1869 he was in Australia. His books include ‘A New Spirit of the Age’ (1844).
