A light hearted Autograph Letter Signed, to “My dear Madam”, about coping with his cumbersome books, incorporating a small ink sketch of an artist’s easel. 4 pp. 7 x 4 inches, in good condition. 31 July 1868. John Hayter (1800-1891), portrait painter, exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1815 to 1879. His portrait drawings, in chalks or crayons, became particularly popular, a number of them being engraved for The Court Album, which contained portraits of the female aristocracy (1850–57).
