Violet stamped address of P.Evans, Lewin, Boston Lincs. On the writing paper of 33 Great George Street [1860s]. Peacock Inn, Thursday morning, undated. Sir John Hawkshaw (1811 –1891), civil engineer. He served as President of the Institution of Civil Engineers 1862-63. His most noteworthy work is the Severn Tunnel. He also worked on the drainage of the Fens, designing, in 1862, a dam to shut out the tide from the middle level drain in Norfolk.
