GROVE, Sir George. 7315

Autograph Letter Signed to Charles Santley, the famous baritone, congratulating him “on your splendid singing yesterday”. 3 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, fine. Athenaeum Club, 30 June 1877. Praise from Sir George Grove (1820-1900), musicologist, editor of the great Dictionary of Music and Musicians. “I have always admired you, as your know; but upon my word yesterday you surpassed yourself. I never heard your voice fuller and rounder, or more beautiful in tone, the spirit of the whole thing was perfect, and your high note (F wasn’t it?) was magnificent.”
