Description
Autograph Letter Signed ‘H.Grote’, to Miss Tucker, about the news of neighbours, a boy’s recovery, the doctor’s visits in the afternoon, the mornings being “hopeless”, etc. 3 pp. 6 x 4 inches, fine, remains of guard where formerly mounted. East Burnham, Maidenhead, 21 December 1853. Uncommon. Harriet Grote (1792-1878), biographer. She was married to George Grote and was acquainted with many of the English philosophical radicals. A long term friend described her as “absolutely unconventional”. In a postscript, she writes, “The little girls had better return to school tomorrow after seeing their brother; as I am sure your house ought not to be invaded by juvenile guests at such a juncture. H.G.”
