Autograph Letter Signed ‘James Graham’, addressed ‘My dear Sir’, discussing Commons business and the possible appointment of his correspondent’s friend to a Receivership in the North Riding, with mention of Wilberforce. 4 pp. 7 x 6 inches, in good condition. House of Commons, Thursday evening, undated. Sir James Robert Graham (1792-1861), statesman. “I got hold of Wilberforce & carried him with me to Lord Liverpool and altho’ he would or could not for some very good reason request the appointment for Coll. P. yet he & I both informed Lord L that it was the wish & desire of every real friend to the Govt. in the North Riding as well as many others in the West & East Ridings that he should have this appointment, & Wilberforce said every thing in his favour & even expressed his wish strongly altho’ he could not ask the appointment for anyone.” In a postscript Graham mentions that the Commons is considering the Preservation of the Peace Bill.
