Autograph Letter Signed, to Miss Martin, regretting that “I have not got diagrams of the skeletons of man and the ape”. A good one page example, 7 x 4 inches. Physiological Laboratory, Oxford, 6 December 1898. “… the comparison of their brains I have but not of their bones.” Francis Gotch (1853 –1913), British neurophysiologist who was professor of physiology at University College Liverpool and Oxford. In 1899 he described the “inexcitable” or “refractory phase” that takes place between nerve impulses. He also performed significant research in the field of electroretinography.
