Autograph Letter Signed, to Charles Ratcliff, about the photographs sent by Gordon by the Caledonian Railway, explaining the “bad representation of the picture”. 2 pp. 6 x 4 inches, in good condition. 123 George Street, Edinburgh, 22 November 1862. Sir John Watson Gordon PRSA RA (1788 –1864), Scottish portrait painter, President of the Royal Scottish Academy. “… until the Artist can get rid of this difficulty, ie the colours red and yellow coming out black and the blues white, Photography never will succeed in taking off any object in which there is colour.”
