Dormant Commission, signed ‘George R.I.’ by the King at head, appointing The Senior Military Officer in Command of His Majesty’s Regular Forces in South Africa to be, in certain events, High Commissioner for South Africa. Countersigned by Lewis Harcourt [Secretary of State for the Colonies]. 3 pp. 13 x 8 inches, royal wafer seal affixed, in good condition, clean tear at centre fold. Together with a printed copy of the Commission. Our Court at Saint James’s, 15 May 1914. King George V (reigned 1910-1935). The Dormant Commission was prepared for use in the event of the absence from South Africa of Viscount Buxton, High Commissioner.
