A long Autograph Letter Signed ‘Julius Froebel’, to his niece Eliza Froebel in Edinburgh, discussing autograph letters and signatures, and listing letters received from well-known correspondents, and other matters. In German, untranslated. 6 pp. 8 x 5 inches, in fine clean condition, with the original franked envelope (worn) Algiers, 14 June 1882. Julius Froebel (1805-1893), German geologist, traveller, democratic politician. After 1848 he emigrated to America. His published works included A System of Social Politics (London, 1847); The Republican, an historical drama (1848): Seven Years’ Travel in Central America, Northern Mexico, and the Far West of the United State (1859); Theory of Politics (1861); and Political Addresses (1870). He was German consul in Algiers from 1876 to 1888.
