Autograph Letter Signed, to Macmillan, his publisher, thanking him for the cheque, agreeing to notices in the press, confirming that the Essays end with Flavian Caesars, asking whether anything can be done for “the Berlin Doctor”, and discussing an index. 3 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, in good condition. Wells, 10 December 1872. A good letter by the famous historian E.A.Freeman (1823-92), author of The Norman Conquest. “You can get some one to do the Index to Gen. Sketch. but I greatly doubt your finding any one who can do it, save myself and Stubbs. Shall your man do one sheet – say a sheet in the middle – that I may judge by.”
