Letter Signed by Fouché as Minister of Police, to the Minister of War, forwarding some intelligence received relating to deserters and conscripts. In French. 1 page 9 x 7 inches, neatly trimmed, light foxing, paper adhering on verso where formerly mounted in an album. Provenance: Brentano’s, Paris. Paris, 18 thermidor an 7 [5 August 1799]. With condition issues, but nevertheless the scarce autograph of Napoleon’s Minister of Police, Joseph Fouché, duc d’Otrante (Duke of Otranto) (1759–1820), who became member of the Convention in 1792. An enthusiastic proponent of de-Christianization, and a consummate intriguer, he served as Minister of Police (1799–1815).
