The original Vellum Commission, signed by Lord Douglas as His Majesty’s Lieutenant of the County of Forfar, appointing George Bell to be Captain n the Eleventh Regiment of British Militia raised from the Counties of Forfar and Kincardine. 11 x 15 inches, folds, in good condition, Douglas red wax seal affixed. 9 November 1818, General Sir George Bell (1794-1877) fought in the Peninsular War, Canada (1836-38), and the Crimea. He was the author of a popular autobiography, Rough Notes by an Old Soldier during Fifty Years Service (1867).
