EPSTEIN, Jacob. 19411

Autograph Letter Signed ‘Jacob Epstein’, to Richard Curle, about his bust of Joseph Conrad, sending separately a photograph of a clay bust (not yet in bronze), limiting the edition of the Conrad bust to 6, discussing the price and Conrad’s sitting. 3 pp. 7 x 5 inches, in good condition, with the original envelope. Loughton, Essex, postmarked 20 May 1924. Jacob Epstein, American-born British sculptor (1880-1959). “I am limiting the edition of the Conrad bust to 6 & each copy will be at 300 pounds; as it is a good sized bust & the casting will come to at least 50 pounds this is not an unreasonable price & I hope your friend will secure it. I think myself it is one of my best things. Conrad of course sat splendidly & I am grateful to him for giving me the opportunity of working from him & I hope his gout is not troubling him now.”
