General Sir David Edward Wood (1812-1894), the son of Colonel Thomas Wood (1777-1860), was commissioned into the Royal Artillery, served at the Cape (1842-43), held a high command in the Royal Horse Artillery in the Crimea and during the Indian Mutiny.
