Autograph Letter Signed, to Lady Clarendon, about the illness of his friend Gifford, explaining that Dufferin can not accept Lady Clarendon’s invitation. 3 pp. 7 x 4½ inches, in good condition, remains of hinges. Dufferin Lodge, 28 January 1862. Frederick Temple Hamilton-Temple-Blackwood, 1st Marquis of Dufferin and Ava (1826-1902), diplomat and administrator, was Governor-General of Canada (1872-78). “I am afraid moreover even if it were not for this sad decision, that my confidence in my talents for acting would not have permitted me to have run the risk of spoiling the tout ensemble of yr. company. The fact is I have not tried to take a part for years.”
