DOYLE, Conan. 18815

Autograph Letter Signed in full, ‘Arthur Conan Doyle’, addressed ‘Dear Sir’ [Mr. Rose], about the development of the Roc Cycle Company, its premises, approving a bank draft, etc. 1½ pages 7 x 4½ inches, in good condition, some soiling to second leaf. Undershaw, Hindhead, Haslemere, 15 June 1903. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930), author of The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Conan Doyle had a financial interest in the Roc Cycle Company, a motorcycle manufacturing company in Guildford, which experimented with a number of unorthodox designs. “If there is any definite proposal about premises would it be well to have that meeting at Guildford? But London would suit me equally well. What dates & hours do you suggest? I am very full up so you had best give me a choice. Certainly this improved business justifies us in considering an enlargement of premises… Wall wants stirring up in the matter of sending out his bills. I am awaiting mine.”
