Autograph Letter Signed ‘Frank Dillon’, to Henry Mogford, the art exhibition organiser, leaving a picture in his care for the summer exhibition, referring to another picture in the British Institution, promised to the Manchester annual exhibition, but which, if unsold, will be sent to Mogford. 2 pp. 7 x 4 inches, a couple of very light stains, in good condition. 3 Montague Place, Russell Square, 27 April 1857. Uncommon. Frank Dillon (1823-1909), landscape painter. He travelled much and as early as 1850 published ‘Sketches in the Island of Madeira’. He visited Egypt first in 1854 and many of his pictures were the outcome of his visits to that country. He took a keen interest in the preservation of the Arab monuments of Cairo, and was active in opposition to the destruction of Philae. Dillon painted four Egyptian pictures for the Khedive of Egypt. He spent a year in Japan, 1876-77.
