Description

End of letter signature (only), ‘Futteh Singh’ as Rana of Dhami State. 3 x 5 inches, laid down on a part page from a Victorian album. In good condition. Undated. Rare. Rana Fateh Singh was the ruler of the Dhami State, a small princely state in present-day Himachal Pradesh, India, reigning from 1867 to 1894. He succeeded his father, Rana Govardhan Singh, who had built a strong, cordial relationship with the British Raj by maintaining absolute loyalty during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Because of this historical compliance, British authorities extended administrative concessions to Rana Fateh Singh during his reign, notably halving the tribute demanded from the state starting in 1880.
