A series of 17 autograph letters from Joseph Hutchinson, at Chillingham Castle, to Charles, 3rd Earl of Tankerville, discussing in detail estate matters, tenants, estate workers, local news, expenses, boundaries, the Durham Election and much else. 17 letters, mostly 9 x 7 inches, in clean condition, but a few defective with a number of faults, tears, stains, etc., 3 address panels. Entirely legible. Plus three related letters discovered with this small archive. Chillingham Castle, 1761 Chillingham Castle, Alnwick, Northumberland. “Tho the Clergy are a Set of Blood Suckers and ever Begging whose Treachery is in their hearts, in this affair of Whinfields I now find their Eyes are upon your Lordship at first letting out, he was Curate who married the late Housekeepers Sister…” In his will in the National Archives, Joseph Hutchinson is described as “Gentleman of Chillingham Castle”.
