CHEADLE, Walter Butler. 20854

Autograph Letter in the third person: “Dr Cheadle will have great pleasure in accepting Dr Sieveking’s invitation to diner on Thursday the 8th of June.” 1 page 7x 4 inches, black borders, in good condition. 2 Hyde Park Place, Cumberland Gate, 17 May 1871. Dr Walter Butler Cheadle (1835-1910). In 1862, in the company of Viscount Milton, he set off to explore the then little known western parts of Canada. Their published account of the adventure, complete with near-starvation, went into nine editions by 1901. In 1864, he returned to Cambridge, and gained his MD by 1865. His progress through the Royal College of Physicians was assured, and his professional life began with election as physician to the Western General Dispensary in 1865, and assistant physician to St Mary’s Hospital in 1867.
