Fragment only of an Autograph Letter Signed ‘I remain Yours sincerely T.Cavallo’, three lines, written on both sides, “as the gentleman who is to take this to town is to stay here two days longer, I shall keep this open until he goes.” Strip of paper, 6 inches in length, tipped on mount at left and right edges. In good condition. Newick Park, Sussex, 30 December 1806. A scarce autograph. Tiberius Cavallo (1749-1809), Italian physicist and natural philosopher. His interests included electricity, the development of scientific instruments, the nature of “airs”, and ballooning. He became both a Member of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Naples, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1779. Between 1780 and 1792, he presented the Royal Society’s Bakerian Lecture thirteen times in succession. His works included a History and Practice of Aerostation (1785).
